At Creativeboris we offer a social media management service. This allows us to build social media acounts for our clients.
What’s surprising is how SUCCESS the approach has been after only a few tweaks. As always with social media accounts, you test things, try things and then let the crowd lead you.
The account we are working on is @lyndonantcliff, this is our founder’s account and so we get to play around with it and do live testing. We started mid February, about 4 weeks ago. The account had 177 followers and had been set up over 4 years ago.
You can see in the early posts that it was a personal account, getting followers from current social media connections and not really having a narrative direction or objective. This was a typical personal account.

We played around with the styles of posting the text and observed that some styles got more likes than others, we let the crowd decide our path.
The key is a to establish a specific and unique style which resonates with the followers of the account.
We employ this method with each client we chose and use because we want to maximise the number of natural follows an account will get, as this improves the value of the social media account as an asset. There are places where you can buy thousands of followers for a few dollars, but these are not real people, merely sock puppet accounts without a real individual behind them.
Hashtags are a crucial technique also, but they have to be relevant and not in your face. This is a natural skill we can bring over from SEO, remembering that real people are performing the searches and not bots.
Another aspect of building a high value, long term Instagram presence means to concentrate on the followers, the people and what they are saying and let the crowd guide the content. Also, liking and commenting on posts from influential Instagrammers and building a network of other Instagrammers who are like minded. People tend to cluster around these accounts and huge benefits can come from an alignment.
Building any social media account is a mix of conversation content and delivering a narrative. Instagram is no different and once you discover, through testing and trying different things, which is the way to go then it can get very interesting.
You can build any social media account quite quickly if you are brave enough to be different and aim for the right tone.
